Delta del Po (Italy)

Solutions

Po Delta in Italy is one of Europe’s largest wetlands, which is threatened by sea level rise, projects of offshore fossil fuel extraction, hydropower development, frequent episodes of high particulate matter air pollution and habitat destruction. For years, scattered restoration projects have taken place without considering the entire area of the Delta.

Recently, a project adopted by the Italian government at the initiative of WWF and ANEPLA aims to involve more than 80 municipalities in restoration measures in in 37 sites, including restoring 1,500 hectares of wetland.
The project proposal has been developed with the direct involvement of Po District Basin Authority and AIPo (Interregional Agency for the Po, which brings together the Regions crossed by the Po).
