In October last year, key stakeholders for the environmental management the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve came together at a participatory workshop organised by the University of Bucharest (Research Centre in Systems Ecology and Sustainability) within the Horizon RESTORE4Cs project. The workshop, which focused on opportunities and challenges for restoring wetlands in the Danube Delta, benefited from the presence of representatives of the Management Authority of the Danube Delta, municipalities, businesses and researchers. Beyond the diversity of views of different actors, there seemed to be agreement on one common challenge – the need to identify strategies for long-term financing of wetland restoration.
In this new workshop, RESTORE4Cs, through its new Community of Practice, seeks to support the needs identified by Danube Delta stakeholders, by inviting the PONT Nature Trust to share their best practices in sustainable blended finance and learnings from a model which has been successfully applied to the wetlands of the transboundary Prespa-Ohrid region – between Albania, Greece and North Macedonia over the last decade.
